You&#039;ve hit the nail on the head with your last question.  It allows you to generate data (in this case a list of dates) out of nothing (erm, well, not really nothing but numbers to be precise).

In the example that I provided in my post I fulfilled the requirement &quot;generate a list of dates from the start of the year until today&quot;, starting from just that list of numbers.
